The Mathematics Department was opened in 1961 to complement the Earth Sciences (i.e. the Departments of Geography and Geology) as envisioned by Dr Mata Baksh Srivastava, the founder Principal of DBS (PG) College.
The founder HOD was Prof. J. P. Gupta who joined the Department in 1961. Later on in the years 1964, 1965 and 1968 Dr. Anand P. Gupta, Dr. D. K. Banerjee and Dr. B. S. Sharma joined the department. Dr. B. S. Negi joined the department in the year 1969 and Dr. R. G. Varshney joined the department in the year 1970 respectively.
The Post Graduate programme started in 1968. Dr. D. K. Banerjee was the HOD from 1991 to 2004. He was a member of the Executive council, Garhwal University Senate, Garhwal University and member of RDC, Garhwal University.He retired as NCC Captain (11th UP battalion-4th Company) and was the NCC officer of the College from 1970 to 1978.
The Mathematics Dept. is famous for its teaching as well as research activities.The present faculty members are-Dr. R. K. Pandey, Dr. Jaipal Singh, Dr. Amit Chauhan, Dr. B. S. Rawat and Dr. Dileep Sharma. The Dept. specializes in Operation Research, Mathematical Modelling in Applied Mathematics, Fluid Dynamics and Astronomy etc.
In this department the areas of Research are: Operational Research, Mathematical Modelling in Applied Mathematics.
10 Books and 10 papers have been published from this department in reputed journals recently and 5 students have enrolled for the degree of D.Phil./Ph.D. |
